Passport Card
A U.S. passport card is a wallet-sized, limited-use version of the U.S. passport. Passport cards can only be used to re-enter the United States by land or sea from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Bermuda.
Unlike passport books, they cannot be used for international air travel. However, they are cheaper than passport books and are still valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children under 16.
If you already have a passport that was issued within the last 15 years, you can apply for a passport card by mail using Form DS-82. If not, then you must apply in-person at a passport issuing facility.
It takes anywhere from 4-12 weeks to process a passport card application, the same as a passport book application.
Passport prices are as follows:
Books for adults: $135 new, $110 for renewals
Books for minors: $105
Cards for adults: $55 new, $30 for renewals
Card for minors: $40
