Original Birth Certificate
When parents apply for a birth certificate for their newborn baby, the state Vital Records Office creates an original birth certificate and sends a copy of that original to the parents. Original birth certificates are always kept under lock and key at the agency where they were created. Only copies of the original are ever issued.
However, there are two different kinds of copies that you can apply for, an informational copy or a certified copy. Certified copies are valid as proof of citizenship and identity. A certified copy will include a government seal and the registrar’s signature and can be used when applying for a driver’s license or passport, or to enroll a child in school
