Stillborn Birth Records
Babies that are born after 24 weeks and are not considered medically alive at birth are referred to as stillborn. By law, all stillbirths must be recorded with the state where the birth occurred.
If a stillbirth occurs, the hospital, birthing facility, or the parents must register the birth within six weeks. If the baby was born alive but died immediately or shortly after birth, then the death must be registered within 5 business days. In this case, both birth and death can be registered at the same time.
